Snow Activities

The Southern Alps of New Zealand offer fabulous alpine skiing locations. Whare Kea is perfectly located between two of New Zealand’s best alpine ski resorts: Cardrona and Treble Cone as well as the Waiorau Nordic ski area.

To ensure the activities are all the more enjoyable we recommend that in addition to skiing attire you also pack comfortable walking shoes/boots, fleece pullover/jumper, waterproof jacket, cap/hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent and please don’t forget your camera.

Harris Mountains Heli-Skiing

With over 400 runs from over 200 peaks in seven separate mountain ranges, Harris Mountains Heliskiing’s terrain is vast. New Zealand’s largest and oldest heliski operation, HMH has provided unique heliskiing trips for over 25 years. Runs vary between 2000 to 4000 vertical feet of treeless skiing in sheltered basins, bowls and wide rolling mountain flanks through to steep and gnarly chutes. HMH’s operations include the famous Harris Mountains and Buchanans Range right next door to Whare Kea. You can choose to heliski with HMH on an adhoc daily basis or put together a group of friends and charter your own helicopter and guides for the week. And best of all, your heliski trip starts right from Whare Kea’s front lawn. Visit www.heliski.co.nz
