The Whare Kea Story

Their passion for the Southern Alps for helisking and the many summer alpine activities available within these beautiful mountains, gave breath to a new vision – they decided to build an exciting new addition to the Lodge, the Whare Kea Chalet, a unique alpine escape – luxury where you would least expect to find it.

The unique features of the Chalet are its location, the standard of accommodation provided for this location and its design sensitivity to the local environment – situated as it is at 1700m on the edge of the Mt Aspiring National Park.

In 2003 Whare Kea Lodge & Chalet were invited to join the illustrious Relais & Chateaux group and in 2004 Whare Kea Chalet won the Relais & Chateaux Environment Design award for excellence.

Whare Kea’s combination of outstanding lakeside and mountain-top locations along with high quality cuisine and service provides guests with the opportunity to experience the Southern Alps in a way that is not possible with any other boutique hotel in New Zealand and completes the Myer family’s vision.
