A new and unique offering exclusive to guests of Whare Kea Lodge is the opportunity to enjoy an overnight stay at our luxurious, high alpine Chalet.

Accessed via a scenic helicopter flight from the front lawn of the Whare Kea Lodge, the Chalet is located high in the Buchanan mountain range beside the Mt. Aspiring National Park. Enjoying direct sunlight all day from its north facing location, guests are afforded stunning views of Mt. Cook on the north east horizon to Mt. Aspiring on the west.

The Chalet is a true extension of the luxury and comfort of Whare Kea Lodge and was conceived to maximise the breathtaking views without impacting on its environment. The Chalet comprises two double guest bedrooms, living areas, bathroom and sun deck. The Chalet’s sustainable design excellence was recognised when Whare Kea received the Relais & Chateaux Environmental Award in 2004.

Chalet Activities

From the Chalet’s location, a wide range of activities await.

During the summer months, enjoy a guided alpine walk followed by a gourmet picnic surrounded by high rocky mountains, residual snowfields, glaciers and alpine meadows.

Incomparable high mountain walking, particularly from the summit of Dragon Fly Peak, offer unrivalled alpine vistas.

In the winter/spring months the Chalet offers a spectacular base for either heliskiing or ski touring.

Each party of guests is accompanied by both a suitably qualified guide to ensure maximum enjoyment and safety in the mountains and a personal host to look after all your Chalet needs.

At the end of the day, enjoy a drink on the deck in the evening Alpen glow and contemplate what tomorrow might bring.
