Air Activities

To assist with access to many of the air based outdoor activities around Whare Kea, our experienced staff are available to offer advice and co-ordinate your plans.

To ensure the activities are all the more enjoyable we also recommend you pack comfortable walking shoes/boots, fleece pullover/jumper, waterproof jacket, cap/hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent and please don’t forget your camera.

Siberia Experience

For those wishing to combine air, water and land in a unique activity, the Siberia experience is a fantastic good weather day trip throughout the remote high mountains of the Southern Alps. Starting the day with a drive to the north end of Lake Wanaka and the hamlet of Makarora (about 1 hour), you will then enjoy a scenic ½ hour flight through the Alps landing at the Siberia Valley airstrip. From there a 3 hour walk down stream through the beech forest will take you to the Wilkin River where you’ll be picked up by a jet boat for an exhilarating ½ hour ride back to your starting point. A more detailed description is available at www.siberiaexperience.co.nz, www.southernalpsair.co.nz or www.wilkinriverjets.co.nz.

Glider

Out of This World/Thrill Seeking Experiences

Heli-hiking, gliding, tandem parachuting, tandem paragliding, bungy jumping and canyon swinging. If those activities excite you, you’ve come to the right place. The summer months (December – February) are a fantastic time to enjoy these thrill-seeking experiences and our staff are only too eager to assist you with your desires. Try heli-hiking where you can enjoy the mountain peaks without the effort of climbing them. Alternatively, Milford Sound, Mt. Aspiring, Mt. Cook and the Fox/Franz Josef glaciers are amongst some of the spectacular sights within easy flying distance of Whare Kea.
