At Whare Kea Lodge & Chalet we feel privileged to share the breathtaking splendour of our lake and alpine environment with you. But with this privilege comes responsibility - a commitment to respect and take care of our environment now and into the future.

Our Commitment to the Environment is a promise to continually improve our environmental performance and sustainability across all areas of our business practice. This will be an ongoing journey that will improve with time and experience.

In making our Commitment to the Environment we pledge the following:

• To think before we buy
• To think before we use
• To think before we discard
• To protect wildlife and natural habitats
• To educate & grow enthusiasm for the environment amongst all those who stay or work at the Lodge & Chalet
• To support and be involved in environment matters with our local community

• Our staff are trained to reduce waste (reducing the amount of waste going to landfill) and recycle where possible. We encourage our guests of the lodge to do so also. We ask that you please give any waste or recyclable products to a staff member to divide and dispose of.
• We offer a towel and linen change agreement which ensures you’re helping the environment by reducing energy and the enormous quantity of detergents that are currently polluting our waters.
• We always endeavour to turn off lights or equipment when not needed (or when we leave a room). You may wish to do the same.
• We offer Aesop products, which include high-quality plant-based ingredients that are environmentally friendly for our waterways, in all guest bathrooms for your use during your stay.
• We use only biodegradable or non-toxic cleaning products.
• We work closely with Sustainable Wanaka, Wanaka Wastebusters (Recycling) and Qualmark New Zealand.
