Canyoning in Wanaka

An exhilarating challenge, canyoning involves climbing, jumping, abseiling down waterfalls, swimming and floating through spectacular rock formations.

Various canyoning options in the Lake Wanaka region cater to all skill levels. A great place to start your Wanaka canyoning adventure is the Niger Stream in the Matukituki Valley, with no experience required.

At the other end of the scale is the Leaping Burn, also in the Matukituki. It’s classed as the big time in canyoning terms, with a climb 250-odd metres before dropping into a gorge. Expect to get wet.

Your Wanaka canyoning guides will advise you on the best trip for you according to your experience and fitness level. Just bring a swimsuit and a towel. Footwear is provided.

Deep Canyon offers several world-class one-day and half-day canyoning trips in the Lake Wanaka region. The most popular excursion is the Niger Stream, with abseiling, lots of sliding, and even a few jumps.
