Walking

Beautiful walks abound in the lodge’s immediate environs where you can take in spectacular vistas of the lake and surrounding mountains. A track following the contour of the lake leads to the delightful town of Wanaka in around an hour.

A short drive takes you to the Diamond Lake Conservation Area where an excellent easy walk takes you to picturesque Diamond Lake, with options to continue above for spectacular views of Lake Wanaka. A round trip to the lake lookout takes around two hours.

Further afield, a 45-minute drive brings you to Rob Roy Valley and a walk by the Matukituki River, rising through a forest of old beech trees to an alpine meadow just beneath Rob Roy Glacier. The return walk takes around three and a half hours.

On the other side of the lake, the Mount Iron Track, just a couple of kilometres from Wanaka, is a popular walk suitable for all ages. The 250-metre summit offers views of the Pisa Range, Upper Clutha Basin, Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps.

We can arrange a gourmet picnic lunch for you from the lodge, on reques.  For longer walks and tramping tracks in the Wanaka region, view our tramping page, or visit the Lake Wanaka Tourism website.
